Regular Verb Tenses

Past
To form the past tense of a regular verb first take the root of the verb and then lenite it if possible
Examples
Sheinn - Sung
Choisich - Walked
Thòisich - Began
Dh'ith - Ate
Dh'fhuirich - Stayed
Leum - Jumped
To form the negative, interrogative and negative interrogative add: Cha do, An do or Nach do
Examples
neg.
Cha do sheinn mi - I didn't sing
interrog.
An do sheinn thu? Did you sing
neg. interrog.
Nach do sheinn iad? Didn't they sing?
Future
To form the future tense of regular verbs start with the root and add (a)idh
Examples
Seinnidh - Will sing
Coisichidh - Will walk
Tòisichidh - Will begin
òlaidh - Will drink
Leumaidh - Will jump
To form the neegative, interrogative and negative innterogative simply prefix the affirmitive with Cha(n), An/Am or Nach and drop the (a)idh ending.
Examples
Cha seinn mi - I will not sing
An seinn thu? Will you sing?
Nach seinn iad? Will they not sing?
Conditional
To form the conditional tense start with the past tense and add (a)inn for 1st person singular, (e)amaid for 1st person plural and (e)adh for all the rest.
N.B
In spoken Gaelic the (e)amaid of the 1st person plural is often droped in favour of the (e)adh ending.
Examples
Sheinninn - I would sing
Choisicheadh tu - You would walk
Thòisicheadh iad - They would start
Dh' itheamaid or Dh'itheadh sinn - We would eat
Dh'òladh sibh - You would drink
Relative Future
This is formed from the future tense of any verb that ends in (a)idh. Simply drop the (a)idh ending and replace it with (e)as and lenite the first letter if possible
Examples
Ma chuireas tu - If you put
Cò a ruitheas dhan bhùth? - Who will run to the shop?
Nuair a thilleas iad - When they return
Ged a dh'òlas e seo - Although he'll drink this
